Patricia Polacco is a well known author and illustrator of over sixty-five books. The daughter of a teacher, she struggled to learn to read and found school discouraging. She endured teasing and hid her disability until a teacher recognized that she could not read and began to help her. It wasn’t until junior high school, one of her teachers finally discovered that dyslexia was the reason for her lack of confidence. Patricia learned to express herself through art and does all the illustrations in her books.
